Evaluation and Goals

A speech therapy program begins with a comprehensive evaluation by a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). This assessment identifies the individual's communication strengths and challenges. Based on the evaluation, the SLP creates personalized therapy goals tailored to the individual's needs. Therapy sessions typically last up to 45 minutes, with the frequency determined by the SLP's recommendations.

The goals of speech therapy may include improving spoken language, developing nonverbal skills such as signs or gestures, or learning to communicate using alternative methods (e.g., pictures or technology). Examples of skills targeted in speech therapy include:
